Teacher Registration (NSW – NESA)
Teachers in New South Wales must be registered with NESA — the NSW Education Standards Authority. Oho confirms an NESA registration against the official register.
Who needs it
Anyone teaching in an NSW school or setting that requires NESA registration. A person may hold teacher registrations in more than one state at the same time, and Oho tracks each state's registration separately — so a teacher moving interstate needs the new state's registration recorded, not the old one edited.
What Oho needs
The NESA account number, plus the teacher's first name and surname. A middle name and date of birth are optional and can help disambiguate a common name.
1234567 — four to fifteen characters. Digits usually, but letters and hyphens are accepted too.
The NESA public register is a name-based search that Oho filters by account number, and it will confirm an account number is "Active" without vouching for whose it is. The real validation is the match on the teacher's details, which Oho reflects in the outcome and the check flags.
Treat an active number with mismatched details as needing review, not as a pass. This is the one teacher register where that gap exists.
Multi-word surnames can be pinned with double quotes to keep the name search precise.
Before you start
Nothing. The NESA register is public, so there's no login or API key to provide, and there's no employer linkage recorded against a teacher registration.
How Oho verifies it
Oho queries the NESA register and returns a result in under 5 seconds. Once verified, Oho re-checks it on the schedule you set in the Verification Sources tab.
Reading the result
Every check resolves to one of these outcomes:

Renewals & monitoring
Renewals flow through automatically — the registration number doesn't change on renewal, so nothing needs re-entering.
NESA uses an accreditation model rather than a fixed term, so the register publishes no expiry date. Oho tracks expiry from whatever date you supplied, if any — so an accreditation that lapses shows up through the register's own status rather than through an expiry warning.
Because there's no employer linkage, nothing pushes a change to you: monitoring here is Oho's scheduled re-checks alone. The register is public and fast, so a daily cadence is comfortable.
