Teacher Registration (SA – TRB)
Teachers in South Australia must be registered with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. Oho confirms a registration with the SA TRB against the official register.
Who needs it
Anyone teaching in a South Australian school or setting that requires registration with the SA TRB. A person may hold teacher registrations in more than one state at the same time, and Oho tracks each state's registration separately — so a teacher moving interstate needs the new state's registration recorded, not the old one edited.
What Oho needs
The TRB number, plus the teacher's first name and surname. A middle name and date of birth are optional and can help disambiguate a common name.
123456 — the SA TRB register accepts both letters and digits, so enter the number exactly as printed on the registration rather than stripping any prefix.
Before you start
Nothing on your side. The SA TRB register is public and there's no employer linkage recorded against a teacher registration — though unlike the other boards it sits behind a captcha, which Oho solves for you.
How Oho verifies it
Oho queries the SA TRB register and returns a result in under 10 seconds. Once verified, Oho re-checks it on the schedule you set in the Verification Sources tab.
Reading the result
Every check resolves to one of these outcomes:
| Status (as shown in the app) | Colour | What it means | API value |
|---|---|---|---|
| May engage | Green | Valid and current — the person is cleared for the work. | MAY_ENGAGE |
| May not engage | Red | Not valid — expired, suspended, not found, or a match on a ban register. | MAY_NOT_ENGAGE |
| Under review | Yellow | Cleared, but worth a closer look — for example a condition on the clearance, a possible match, or an expiry coming up. | REVIEW_REQUIRED |
| In progress | Grey | Still being checked. | IN_PROGRESS |
| Error | Grey | The source couldn't be reached; Oho will try again. | ERROR |
When it doesn't verify
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| May not engage — no matching record | The number or the teacher's name doesn't match the register | Check the number is letters and digits, then check the name as the register holds it |
| May not engage after a name change | The register may still hold the previous surname | Update the worker's name to match the register and re-run |
| May not engage — not current | Registration lapsed, cancelled or suspended | Not a data problem. The teacher needs to resolve it with the SA TRB |
| Under review | The register returned a condition, or details that don't line up cleanly | Open the check and read it before relying on the registration |
| A teacher registered interstate reads red | The wrong state's register is being checked | Record the registration against the state that issued it |
| Error | The register was unreachable | Nothing. Oho retries on the next run |
Renewals & monitoring
Renewals flow through automatically — the registration number doesn't change on renewal, so nothing needs re-entering.
The register returns the registration's expiry date with each check, and Oho flags one falling due within 90 days — a wider warning than the usual 30, because a teacher registration renewal is not a same-week job.
Between renewals, the scheduled re-check is what catches a registration that lapses, is suspended or is cancelled mid-term — the register's own status changes, and Oho picks it up.
Because there's no employer linkage, nothing pushes a change to you: monitoring here is Oho's scheduled re-checks alone. The register is public and fast, so a daily cadence is comfortable.
