Verify a Credential

Oho re-checks verifiable credentials on a schedule, but sometimes you want an answer now — a worker starts tomorrow, or a card looked wrong. For most credential types, verifying a single one asks the issuing register there and then, and keeps a record of exactly what came back.

Not every register answers on demand

A register Oho can query per worker answers while you wait. Two don't work that way, and Verify credential is not the control for them:

Credential typeWhyWhat to do instead
NDIS Worker ScreeningThe Commission publishes no per-worker lookup. Oho exports your worker list insteadRun the NDIS verification source. The button isn't shown on an NDIS credential
NSW Working With ChildrenThe Office of the Children's Guardian portal is driven by a separate runner, not by Oho directlyNothing to press. Verify shows Verified — IN_PROGRESS but checks, queues and records nothing. See when NSW checks run

For both, the answer changes when the source next runs, not when you press a button on the credential.

Step 1: Open the credential

Open the worker's profile, click Credentials, and click View Credentials on the card you want to check. This opens the credential's own page, with everything Oho knows about it — the details submitted to the registry, its status, and its verification history.

Step 2: Click Verify credential

Oho contacts the issuing register — for an Ochre Card that's SAFE NT — and updates the credential there and then.

Step 3: Read the result on the Verification tab

The Verification tab holds the full story: when the credential was last checked, what the register returned, and the registry's engagement decision (May engage / May not engage) where the register provides one.

Checking a whole worker at once?

The worker profile's Credentials tab has a Verify all button that runs every verifiable credential they hold in one go.

Some credentials can't be verified at the source

Certificates with no public register (e.g. First Aid) are expiry managed — Oho tracks their expiry date instead of querying a registry.

If a check comes back "May not engage" or "Not found"

The worker appears in the Compliance Overview queue immediately — that's the place to chase a renewal or record an exemption.

Get a corrected credential re-checked

Correcting a reference number doesn't just edit a field. Oho re-files the credential under the corrected number and deliberately drops the previous verdict — a result obtained against the wrong number would say nothing about the right one. So a credential you've just corrected sits unverified until it's checked again, which is expected rather than a sign the correction didn't take.

How to get the new answer depends on the type:

  • For a register Oho queries per worker, press Verify credential on the credential. You'll have a verdict in seconds.
  • For NDIS, there's nothing to press on the credential. Run the verification source from Admin → Verification Sources and read the result when the run finishes.
  • For NSW Working With Children, there's nothing to press at all — no Verify, no ▶ — and the next NSW run won't pick up a credential it has checked before just because you corrected it. Email [email protected] to have it re-checked; see When a credential is checked.

If the credential still doesn't resolve after that, the number itself is usually the problem rather than the check — compare it against the worker's own card, and see the When it doesn't verify table on the credential type's page.
